RISE jamboree on data-analytics supports for Ontario Health Teams in the North

In November 2023, RISE hosted a jamboree on data-analytics supports for OHTs in the North. The jamboree brought together a range of government policymakers, system and organizational leaders, professional leaders, leaders representing diverse communities in the North, as well as representatives from a diverse range of support partners who provide data-analytics supports to OHTs in the North, and was informed by a pre-circulated RISE brief that built on the insights from:

• three previously convened jamborees that focused on  pressing issues for teams in the North, including one on identifying how OHTs can meet the needs of rurally based patients and community partners in mixed urban-rural and predominantly rural environments, a second focused on enhancing the implementation supports available to support population-health management by northern Ontario Health Teams and a third on approaches to address and remove policy and program roadblocks to support Northern Ontario Health Teams
• a learning-health system framework for Northwestern OHTs developed by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM U)
• a pre-jamboree meeting with support partners who provide data-analytics supports to OHTs in the North, which was used to frame the issues for discussion.

The jamboree was structured around four deliberations, which gave participants an opportunity to discuss:

1. issues related to data analytics that have emerged as common to many OHTs in the North (e.g., data-governance tensions, data-operations confusion, data-access challenges, data-trustworthiness concerns, data-capacity inequities and cross-cutting issues related to Indigenous-owned data)
2. data-analytics supports that have been or are being used now by OHTs in the North (e.g., academic partnerships, funding supports, programmatic supports and relational supports)
3. additional data-analytics supports offered by partners to OHTs in the North
4. next steps for a ‘joined-up’ approach to data-analytics supports for OHTs in the North.

Several approaches that could improve data-analytics supports for OHTs in the North were raised by participants and may serve as useful inputs into ongoing discussions among all OHT support partners about how to improve their supports to teams in the North.
