Introduction to ICS: What it is and why it’s important

>> Watch a recording of the webinar

This webinar will be the first of a three-part series, which will aim to provide Ontario Health Teams with the knowledge and skills necessary to meaningfully engage and include Indigenous organizations and communities in the planning, design, delivery, and evaluation of health services.

The first webinar will focus on the foundations of Indigenous Cultural Safety, in recognition that learning to apply culturally safe care is life long. In order to be effective, the foundations must be continuously revisited and put into practice. The foundations of Cultural Safety will lay the groundwork for the following webinars, which will demonstrate the importance of Indigenous traditional healing and wholistic health and indicate wise practices and practical strategies for meaningfully engaging and including Indigenous communities in the work of OHTs. At the end of the first Webinar, participants will be able to define cultural safety and recognize its importance in health service delivery, and simultaneously develop a better understanding of the history of colonization, including the ways in which colonization has adversely impacted, and continues to impact the health and wellbeing of Indigenous people.
