Peter Youssef

Peter is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. He has a strong interest in the macro level aspects of health care and healthy systems and is looking forward to the potential of engaging in real-world change. Peter hopes to improve and add upon his research skills, especially in regards to using, generating, and communicating evidence-based medicine.

As part of his Queen Elizabeth Scholarship, Peter will be travelling to Johannesburg, South Africa to work with the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DMPE) and the Africa Centre for Evidence (ACE). Peter will be working on three projects while he is there. First, he will be working on a data map of the National Spatial Planning Framework. He will also be reviewing and consolidating the evidence mapping work of the DPME, especially focusing on how evidence mapping works together with rapid response services. Finally, Peter will be working on a landscape map of the different mechanisms that evidence is used in Africa. Peter hopes that this internship will continue to develop his skills in critical appraisal, while at the same time providing a real-world context for the importance of evidence syntheses.
