Putting evidence at the centre of everyday life
The Global Commission on Evidence to Address Societal Challenges began in 2022 as a grassroots effort to improve the use of research evidence, and prioritized action to put evidence at the centre of everyday life.
As part of this effort, subject-matter experts and citizen partners were engaged, including the Citizen Leadership Group and via a series of citizen panels, to develop a list of five potentially promising strategies that could help to achieve this aim:
a. make evidence-based choices the default or easy option
b. make evidence available to citizens when they are making choices
c. help citizens judge what others are claiming or find (and receive) reliable information on a topic
d. engage citizens in asking questions and using new or existing evidence to answer them
e. help health and social systems learn and improve rapidly and contribute to a society-wide transformation.
The Forum has initiated a series of five living evidence profiles (LEPs) to identify what is known from the best-available evidence documents about these strategies.
