Chunyi (Christie) TanQueen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health and Social Systems (2019)
Christie is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. She has worked at the McMaster Health Forum’s Impact Lab as a research assistant, tasked with maintaining Health Systems Evidence (HSE) and Social Systems Evidence (SSE). These two databases are used internationally to support evidence-based policy and sparked her interest in the development of global health and health policy. Christie has clinical research experience in heart failure and transplantation at Toronto General Hospital, and has worked as a biomedical laboratory student in the Foster lab at McMaster Children’s Hospital. She hopes to combine her experiences in clinical and biomedical settings to enhance her understanding of decision-making in healthcare.
As an outgoing Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Christie will be interning at the Caribbean Centre for Health Systems Research and Development in Trinidad and Tobago. Her goal is to engage with different cultures, explore their ways of knowing, and to understand regional healthcare challenges in the Caribbean. This knowledge and new perspectives will be applied to her future studies in healthcare in Canada.
