NOSM Centre for Social Accountability and RISE partnership

RISE is pleased to announce that the Centre for Social Accountability at Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) University has joined RISE as a partner as of March 2023. They join the McMaster Health Forum (McMaster University) and the Institute for Better Health (Trillium Health Partners) in providing support to OHTs.

The Centre for Social Accountability is a multidisciplinary centre of NOSM University dedicated to the improvement of health and wellness in Northern Ontario. As part of their work in 2022, researchers at the centre provided a number of supports for OHTs, including a team-based fellowship through an agreement with the OHT Impact Fellowship program. Additionally, a team of researchers and research staff worked with All Nations Health Partners OHT, Rainy River District OHT, and members of the Northwestern regional health system to collaborate on a data framework. The goal of this project was to specify how to support Northwestern local OHTs and regional partners in population-health management (PHM) using data and analytic resources. The transdisciplinary team used document review, knowledge synthesis, and focus groups to create a framework and identify recommendations to mobilize a Northwestern Ontario learning health system with OHTs.

NOSM and RISE have heard from OHTs the importance of ‘serving the north, by the north’ and the need for additional supports to apply a PHM lens. In response to OHT feedback, this partnership aims to help address this need and to continue building upon our collective learnings from the 2022-2023 team-based fellowship, PHM coaching programs, and insights that emerged during a RISE jamboree in January 2023. Through a partnership with the PHM coaches and through a primary healthcare research program based in Northern Ontario, the team will aim to strengthen the use of data and evidence more generally in PHM and decision-making in OHTs.
