Forum Director John Lavis renewed as Tier 1 CRC in Evidence-Support Systems

John Lavis, Director of the McMaster Health Forum and a professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact, has recently been renewed as a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC). His CRC in Evidence-Support Systems will enable him to continue assessing and identifying ways to strengthen how government policymakers organize themselves to make evidence-informed decisions. He and his research team are also creating and evaluating networks to support decision-making and developing and evaluating innovative evidence products and processes. The McMaster Health Forum team continues to address both urgent issues (like the COVID-19 response) and long-standing ones that affect Canada’s health and social systems. Ultimately, this research will shape future efforts to ensure that governments use the best available research evidence to address policy and system challenges.

Tier 1 Chairs, which are held for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers who are considered world leaders in their fields. The chair is worth $200,000 a year for seven years.
