Orezioghene Akporuno

Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2017)

Orezi comes from Nigeria and is currently completing her Masters of Science in Global Health with a focus in Health Management. She is conducting her scholarly research on health system strengthening in Nigeria under the advisement of Dr. Christy Gombay. She holds a double Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour and Health Studies from McMaster University, and also a certificate for the Mini MBA program in conjunction with the GMCA here at McMaster University.

Orezi’s fascination with travel, cultural learning, international development and health project implementation has led her to work on health-related projects in Dominican Republic and Canada. Her research interests are focused on priority setting agendas, resource collaboration and ethics of human health with an emphasis on health equity (especially in low to middle income countries).

As an incoming Queen Elizabeth Scholar, she will harness the data resources, skills and networks from the McMaster Health Forum to learn more about health systems strengthening, especially at a governmental level, in a bid to improve healthcare in Nigeria and apply lessons learnt from her research globally.
