Products|Primary care

Primary care is a foundation of the health system and is central to achieving high-quality clinical care and an improved patient experience. Primary care providers (e.g., family physicians, community pharmacists, nurses, optometrists) act as the first contact point within the healthcare system and as the place patients return to after dealing with acute health issues in other settings. There is compelling evidence that strong primary care is associated with lower costs and improved quality of care. As such, it is not surprising that strengthening primary care is a focus for many governments. Despite the general interest in improving care, some of the challenging issues facing providers and policymakers include how best to: provide timely and equitable access to care; improve care coordination; and, manage the burden posed by the growing number of people living with one or more chronic diseases. Read our products below for evidence and insights about how the health system building blocks are used to provide care in primary care sector.
