Examining the Costs and Cost-effectiveness of Policies for Reducing Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption is currently the world's third largest risk factor for disease, attributable for 5.1% of the global burden of disease, with clear links to conditions such as neuropsychiatric disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, cancer, intentional injuries, unintentional injuries, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.  Given the clear risks associated with alcohol consumption, federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments have an important role in developing and implementing evidence-informed policies to reduce the consumption of alcohol.
